Mailings Release Notes

Version 2.0.09, Saturday, April 21, 2013

• A blacklist may contain "regular expressions," as well as simple email address strings. In this way, when sending mail, you can filter out email addresses that have common patterns, such as the same domain name. (The blacklist is entered in Preferences.) Ex. The regular expression ".*limitpointstore\.com$" will match any string that ends with "limitpointstore.com"

Version 2.0.08, Monday, March 5, 2013

• Bug fix: Fixed a a newly discovered bug that could cause the app to crash if it's location pathname is too long.

• Bug fix: Fixed a newly discovered bug in Lion where the mail server password in Server Settings was not always loaded due to a problem reading the Keychain Access record.

Version 2.0.07, Sunday, August 28, 2011

• Message Monitor update: Fixed an issue with external IP address loading that could cause the Message Monitor to report the external address incorrectly as "0.0.0.0." (Read more about the Message Monitor in the Mailings Help menu.)

Version 2.0.06, Saturday, May 28, 2011

• Browser support update: Some features of the app require the ability to obtain the current web browser's front window's URL and/or title, so it can be imported automatically into Mailings (see the "Load From" popup menu in the Mailer, for example.) Recent changes to Google Chrome broke the ability to do that for Chrome, and it is now fixed. The method of obtaining the URL for Opera has also been updated.

Version 2.0.05, Sunday, May 8, 2011

• Mailer. The Mailer window has a new popup button labelled "Load From" which supercedes the two buttons named "Current Web Page" and "Browse for Files...", adding an additonal way to load the message body as the "raw source" of the currently selected Mail.app message. This is useful for using Mail Stationery as the body of a Mailings message.

Version 2.0.04, Saturday, March 19, 2011

• Message Monitor. Added accesibility to the Message Monitor preferences: the application menu has a new menu item labeled "Message Monitor Preferences" that opens the preferences window to the Message Monitor pane. Also put a button on the Message Monitor log window to access this pane.

• Message Monitor. If the name of the recipient or subject of the message had accented characaters, such as in "Grégory," the name would display in the log window as an "mail encoded" string. This has been fixed.

• Templates. Fixed a problem with the AppleScript tags "ToNameFirst," "ToNameLast," "FromNameFirst" and "FromNameLast" which were not properly replaced by their values causing a script compilation error.

Version 2.0.03, Monday, February 7, 2011

• Message Monitor. The Message Monitor window has a new button labeled "Export to CSV" which when clicked will present a save dialog window for writing the contents of the current log file to a CSV ("comma separated values") text file for import into other applications, such as a spreadsheet.

• Report Logs. Fixed: The index in the Report logs was off by one from the index displayed in the "Select Recipients" window. (This is because one was "0 based" and the other "1 based.")

Version 2.0.02, Monday, January 31, 2011

• LAN Support. The IP address (or DNS name) used to construct message request URLs* for Message Monitor is no longer restricted to use only the IP address of the machine running Mailings. A new option on the "Monitor" pane of Preferences lets you use the external IP address of your LAN by looking it up, or use any other IP address you can manually enter. This enables you to use Mailings on your LAN by setting up your router to redirect requests for the chosen port to the machine running Mailings (of course that machine needs a static address on the LAN for this to work.) It also enables you to take advantage of URL forwarding services like DynDNS.com.

Use DNS. Another new option on the "Monitor" pane of Preferences makes it optional to use DNS names rather than IP addresses in message request URLs. Of course the IP address must have a domain name associated with it.

IP Address Changes. The Message Monitor responds to changes in local IP addresses by reconfiguring itself when a change occurs.

• Troubleshooting. To aid in solving any problems you may encounter a "Troubleshooting" page has been added to the Help files. You can access this new page from the "Troubleshooting" menu item in the Help menu.

Message Monitor Window. The status field at the bottom of the window includes a label to identify the address type used as local or external.

*The "message request URL" is the URL Mailings inserts in each HTML message it sends in order to track when it was opened by the recipient. This URL contains the information displayed in the Message Monitor logs. Message Monitor is a new feature in Mailings that tracks which recipients received and opened the messages sent to them.

Version 2.0.01, Monday, January 24, 2011

• The retry interval was being incorrectly converted resulting in intervals much smaller than specified in preferences.

• When sending secure messages retries were not made on error.

• Default retry interval has been reduced from 60 to 10 seconds.

Version 2.0.00, Tuesday, December 14, 2010

• SSL (secure connections) support. In particular this enables using Gmail which requires SSL.

• Message Monitor for detecting when messages are read (HTML based messages only.) Tracking data is stored using Core Data in XML format for human readability.

• "Mail" stationery support, and more generally, support for sending any raw source messages. This features enables you to send HTML formatted email with numerous pre-designed templates from Mail and other third party authors.

• Server Settings window new features: Port testing, standard port popup, import settings from Mail, a "Use SSL" checkbox, automatic authentication , open "Throttle" preferences button.

• Help files have been updated and moved to the internet so that they can be updated and modified as necessary without need to update the program.

• The log and reports are now written to special folders in the Application Support folder.

• Updated support for the Opera web browser for use with "Current Web Page"

• Many other minor improvements to the user interface and help system including new help files, help buttons in all windows, and improved help tags. Many miscellaneous improvements.
